Unfortunately, Cécile was not in the country over Christmas, but we still paid my Senegalese family a visit. They were very excited about receiving my Danish family and had prepared a traditional lunch for us; thiebou dienne (rice and fish). It was even served the traditional way: On a big, shared plate where men and women eat separately.

Despite the intense programme we did also manage to find time to enjoy the hotel’s lovely view and the pool area, before leaving for Saint Louis. To be continued....
